Who They Are:
Stella, Bella & Lucy’s is a “fine cafe” in downtown Waynesboro that combines breakfast and lunch food service with consignment antiques and an art gallery. Co-owned by Cynthia Doyle, Barbara Stratton, and Dale Johnston, this fun, unique space will be a venue for locals and tourists to hold meetings, get morning coffee, eat a light breakfast, have lunch, get afternoon tea/coffee, or browse the artworks and antiques.
Stella, Bella & Lucy’s aims to provide “good food and excellent service in a comfortable Southern atmosphere,” the owners explain. Their primary goal in serving local customers and tourists is to become “a leading locally owned restaurant known for fresh and creative cuisine, excellent service, and an atmosphere that reflects the hospitality of the region.” They also want to highlight the creativity of the region — through both their food and the works by local artists and artisans on display at Stella, Bella & Lucy’s. (Be sure to look for art by owners Cynthia Doyle and Barbara Stratton while you are there!)
How did you get here?
Each of the owners has management experience in retail and restaurants, which gives them a wealth of experience to draw on in making their vision for Stella, Bella, and Lucy’s a reality. Cynthia, for example, was co-owner and manager of Mad Anthony’s Restaurant in Waynesboro from 1976-1981, helping to make it a local landmark. In addition, Cynthia, Barbara, and Dale are intimately involved in the day-to-day operations of the cafe, from preparing food, to managing personnel, to keeping the books. They are long-time locals and, Cynthia says, “growing up here, downtown was alive for all of us. With the small circumference of the downtown district we had a family atmosphere. It can and will be that way again someday.”
